Environment – Cranborne Chase National Landscape
Cranborne Chase National Landscape is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, knowledgeable countryside ranger with particular experience of working with volunteers. This post is currently a temporary position up until 31st March 2025 although efforts are underway to secure funding for the longer term.
The Chase & Chalke Landscape Partnership Scheme has been underway in this National Landscape since 2020 but unfortunately closes at the end of September 2024. Over 600 volunteers signed up to assist with various natural, historic and cultural projects and this post will continue to support those wishing to undertake practical conservation and access improvements and wildlife surveys across the National Landscape.
In addition, to support community-led nature recovery, ‘Wild About Cranborne Chase’ encourages villages, schools and individual households to pledge what they will do for habitats and wildlife at their local level. The postholder will promote the scheme, offering talks and/or practical advice on the ground for those wishing to take action.
Ideally, you will need a good, thorough knowledge of chalk grassland, woodlands and chalk stream habitats alongside what can be achieved in suburban / garden settings. You will be experienced and confident in undertaking practical work, leading volunteers in safe working practices that not only produce positive results on the ground but which offer great satisfaction, enjoyment and inspiration to those you work alongside. You will also relish talking to and advising groups or individuals about how their local actions (wild flowers, bird boxes, ponds etc) can help our wildlife thrive.
If you are a team player who enjoys sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm with all ages and abilities, then we’d love to hear from you.
