Helena Darragh

Farming in Protected Landscapes Officer

Helena Darragh

Before Helena returned to her home town on the south coast and taking the Farming in Protected Landscapes Officer role with Cranborne Chase AONB, she worked as the Nene Valley Land Adviser for the Wildlife Trust BCN (Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire) for 3.5 years.  Helena’s role chiefly involved working with farmers and land managers to deliver habitat restoration and water quality improvement projects along with an Environmental Land Management Test and Trial in the River Nene catchment.

Spending most of the summer holidays on the back of a quad bike, feeding cattle and lambing sheep on her uncles’ farms in Northern Ireland and Scotland, Helena went on to study MSc Ecological Economics with Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC).  After a stint working in the corporate world for AB Sugar, Helena decided it was much better to be working alongside farmers on the ground.

When not roaming the countryside in a pair of wellies, you’re likely to find Helena on a hockey pitch, an athletics track or sneaking more plants into her Dad’s garden.
