Details
Middleton Down is managed by the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust. It’s a lovely, quiet and hidden reserve in the Chalke Valley offering stunning views and the opportunity for some butterfly spotting.
It is a fantastic example of traditional chalk downland and is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its diversity of grassland plants.
From May early purple and other orchids are in bloom and its worth a trip to spot these and rare chalk butterflies.
For more information about the species you can find on the reserve, and work of the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and detailed directions of how to access the reserve visit their website.
Please note that the reserve has steep sides which can be difficult to climb.
