What projects are supported by Farming in Protected Landscapes?
Projects funded by Defra Farming in Protected Landscapes must support the priorities of the Cranborne Chase National Landscape Management Plan and the Nature Recovery Plan.
FiPL is project based and takes a bottom-up approach – this means that funding will support individual projects proposed by farmers which support local priorities.
Why should farmers support the priorities of Cranborne Chase National Landscape?
Cranborne Chase National Landscape is special and unique and needs to be managed, enhanced and protected by everyone – while also supporting farmers and the wider local economy.
Together, we can make an important contribution to:
Climate
Delivering net zero with nature and nature-based solutions to help communities adapt to the unavoidable effects of climate change.
Nature
Playing a leading role in the delivery of the Nature Recovery Network and achieving the Prime Minister’s commitment to protect 30% of land by 2030;
People
Providing a natural health service that will improve the nation’s public health and wellbeing through increased access to nature across all parts of society, as part of our green recovery.
Place
Creating centres of excellence and green innovation that are flourishing places to live and work, each with a strong identity and cultural heritage, and high recognition as attractive visitor destinations.

We will then arrange a site visit to discuss your ideas in more detail.
We always look to work with you to produce the best and most comprehensive application, to see if ideas can be grown into more ambitious or bigger projects, or bring on board neighbouring landowners.
Once the best project proposal is agreed, the FiPL team will provide you with an application form and other necessary documents.
All projects must be completed and grant money claimed by March 2026.

The size of grant requested will impact on how it is assessed:
What happens next?
You should normally expect to receive a decision within 6 weeks of the deadline. We should be able to advise more accurately, depending on how your application will be assessed.
If we need any further information to support your application, or another site visit, we will be in touch sooner.
Once a decision is made, we will contact you with further details.
Assuming your application is successful, we’ll continue to work closely with you, explaining each step of the process. We will monitor progress through calls and visits to help ensure the project achieves its aims.
