Living history displays and re-enactments are a fantastic and engaging way for Chase & Chalke to bring the past to life on Cranborne Chase.
The Ancient Technology Centre
The Chase & Chalke Landscape Partnership organised Roman Living History events in partnership with the Ancient Technology Centre in Cranborne during 2022.
The Ancient Technology Centre in Cranborne is an outdoor education centre operated by Dorset Council providing historical experiences, linked to the national curriculum. This includes day and residential school visits, Duke of Edinburgh residential weeks, colleges and university field studies, volunteering opportunities and work experience.
The Roman Living History events that took place in 2022 at the Ancient Technology Centre featured Roman and Iron Age displays depicting life during the Roman occupation of Britain. The publicly attended events provided education and engagement that connected people to the historic landscape of Cranborne Chase.
Chalke Valley History Festival 2022
The Chase & Chalke Landscape Partnership organised living history re-enactment and education with re-enactment groups The Vicus and The Iron Age Experience to bring history alive for visitors.
The Iron Age Experience taught visitors and children about Iron Age Britain which spanned between roughly 400BC to 50 AD, through interactive talks and displays.
Visitors learnt about Iron Age tribes of the British Isles prior to, and at the time of, the Roman invasion of Ancient Britain in 43AD under the Roman Emperor Claudius.
The Vicus re-enactment group educated visitors about the construction of roman roads, and life under the romans in Britain.
