We’re delighted to announce the dates of this year’s ChalkEscape Walking Festival. So dust off your walking boots and get ready to discover more of Cranborne Chase’s history and ecology on one of this year’s ChalkEscape events.
Explore the area’s ancient ways from the Roman Road, to Ox Droves and the Shire Rack and learn more about its archaeology with a fascinating talk and tour at Down Farm. See and sense the landscape from a different perspective on a poetry walk or a sketching walk and workshop. Enjoy the return of two of our Characters of the Chase, General Augustus Fox Pitt Rivers and Mrs Ridout, of Coombe Bissett Donkey Express notoriety!
We have a special ladies walk, a great social event for those who may be more nervous about walking on their own, plus the launch of our tales of Jack and his Time Travelling Shepherd’s Hut, for families. There is also a wonderful family friendly walk and treasure hunt in Tarrant Gunville; and for night owls the opportunity to learn more about native bats (not owls!).
Ahead of the festival there will also be a wildflower and bird walk on beautiful Martin Down, so there is much to enjoy – keep an eye out for the full programme, available soon.
