Details

See views to the north or south of Cranborne Chase National Landscape from the the Ox Drove, taking you up a narrow road from Berwick St John where there is road-side parking.

Winklebury Hill Fort can be accessed from the Ox Drove following rights of way. It’s an Iron Age promontory fort on a scarp. Its single rampart and ditch enclose around 17 acres. It was excavated by Augustus Pitt-Rivers in 1881, who discovered evidence of an Iron Age settlement within the defences.
