News from our volunteers

16th April 2026

The last few months have been a busy time for the Cranborne Chasers, our dedicated team of volunteers at Cranborne Chase National Landscape. There have been plenty of opportunities to enjoy some fresh air and a buttery cheesy spud or two at Martin Down, on our regular Wednesday task day.

Volunteers have worked hard to remove scrub from the ancient grassland and bronze age ditches, to retain and preserve these important sites. We have also assisted the rangers with fencing and their conservation grazing, by helping to move and manage their sheep flock around the site.

Volunteers have also taken part in many hedge management activities, such as hedge planting at a local farm, hedge state survey training at Martin Down, and several months of weekly hedge laying training and tasks kindly provided by Anthony Brown at Conegar Hedge laying.

There have been opportunities to work on local community project, Project Manna, where volunteers have helped build a barn foundation, compost bins, completed stream restoration works and built fruit cages.
