Volunteer news

10th June 2026

Cranborne Chase volunteers, AKA ‘the Chasers’, have been hard at work throughout the landscape taking advantage of the lovely weather.

We have been lucky enough to continue our work at Project Manna, a community project on the outskirts of Fordingbridge. A large composter and raised beds have been constructed to create more activities for those they support through the project. More information about Project Manna can be found here Project Manna – A place to find purpose, restoration, and peace.

Our team enjoyed a bit of fencing in the ancient and atmospheric surroundings of Bokerley Dyke on Martin Down and also a small holding in Damerham to help a local farmer, where we enjoyed a lunch of hotdogs.

Tasks coming up include assisting the National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme to put out 30 cameras on countryside sites to assess populations in terms of abundance, and also our usual summer tasks keeping public rights of way open on the Chase. We will also be revisiting our tasks on the Fovant Badges, restoring the chalk military badges carved into Fovant Down.
